), the market leader in audio chips worldwide, today announced that its Maverick(tm) system-on-chip (SOC) Internet audio solution will be featured in the new Win-Jam Digital Audio Player See digital music player, digital media hub and digital media server.  from I-Jam Multimedia. The device is the first to exclusively support the Microsoft Windows Media(tm) format.

The Win-Jam device, which Microsoft has been promoting by giving away one free device every day for the month of May, enables users to store twice as much CD-quality music as devices that only support MP3. The player is scheduled to be available in July.

The Maverick processor provides high-quality audio decoding for Microsoft's Windows Media Audio See Windows Media formats.  as well as other popular compression formats. As an off-the-shelf market-specific processor (MSP (1) (Management Service Provider or Managed Service Provider) An organization that manages a customer's computer systems and networks which are either located on the customer's premises or at a third-party datacenter. ), the Maverick processor features a programmable ARM(R) processor core that allows not only decoding of audio in real time but also provides the ability to run multiple popular operating systems. The Win-Jam Digital Audio Player, which uses iObjects' Dadio digital audio software, is SDMI (Secure Digital Music Initiative) A set of rules for securely distributing digital music over the Internet. Announced in February 1999, it is backed by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and Sony, Warner, BMG, EMI and Universal, the top five  compatible for the secure transfer and playback of music through the Maverick processor's support of Windows Media digital rights management technology.
