), Silicon Vision Inc. and VDOnet Corporation today announced the development of a reference design that will enable OEMs to bring low-cost, high-quality videoconferencing to the high-volume PC market.

Combining the built-in videoconferencing functions of Cirrus Logic's new 100 MHz (MegaHertZ) One million cycles per second. It is used to measure the transmission speed of electronic devices, including channels, buses and the computer's internal clock. A one-megahertz clock (1 MHz) means some number of bits (16, 32, 64, etc.  SGRAM (Synchronous Graphics RAM) A type of dynamic RAM chip that is similar to the SDRAM technology, but includes enhanced graphics features for use with display adapters.  based video/graphics chip, the innovative iVision digital videocamera technology of Silicon Vision, and the standards-based VDOPhone software of VDOnet, the reference design provides a complete, ready-to-market OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  solution that makes desktop personal communications affordable for mainstream PC users.

The reference design, integrated into home or commercial systems, allows end-users to conduct full-motion, full-color video telephone conversations over the Internet, a corporate LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used. , or regular telephone lines.

The reference design consists of a Cirrus Logic (company) Cirrus Logic - A manufacturer of integrated circuits including the Advanced RISC Machine and display interface processors and cards for use as Windows accelerators (requiring dedicated driver software).

CL-GD5480 64-bit VisualMedia Accelerator, VDOnet VDOPhone software, and Silicon Vision's iVision digital camera subsystem. The iVision subsystem integrates an `open-standard' iCamHost digital interface chip, an iCam 512N color digital video camera, a CamPort digital interface standard and the iVision camera control software into the reference design.

"The development of this design will make full-color videoconferencing over the Internet and over regular telephone lines available to an ever-increasing number of users for personal and business purposes," said Asaf Mohr, VDOnet's president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. . "By combining our software technology with a cost-effective camera and Cirrus Logic's advanced hardware design, we help bring the benefits of video telephony See videophone.  to the mass market."

The reference design leverages the unique technical features of each company's products. VDOnet's pioneer VDOPhone software is fully compliant with industry standards such as H.324 and Microsoft NetMeeting, and is the only standard-compliant video telephony software that can also operate over the Internet. Silicon Vision's innovative iVision technology manipulates the data the codec (1) (enCOder/DECoder) A hardware circuit that performs analog-to-digital conversion (ADC) and digital-to-analog (DAC) conversion. When analog signals are entered into a computer, cellphone or other device via a microphone or video source such as VHS tape or analog TV,  requires to ensure high-frame rates during high-motion sequences, optimizing video quality and performance for a specific PC solution.

Cirrus Logic incorporated into the CL-GD5480 baseline features for videoconferencing, including a glueless interface to digital cameras, support for two hardware video windows, and numerous design techniques, such as Planar YUV The color encoding system used for analog television worldwide (NTSC, PAL and SECAM). The YUV color space (color model) differs from RGB, which is what the camera captures and what humans view.  4:2:0, accelerating compression performance and enabling real-time video capture in higher resolutions and frame rates. The baseline reference design eliminates the need for other subsystems or components.

"Recent and continuing use of the Internet, along with the availability of more powerful PCs, is driving the demand for personal video communications products," said Paul Hammond, Silicon Vision's vice president of sales & marketing. "We feel confident that the complete solution offered by this joint development effort will help OEM's fill the rapidly growing market demand for high-quality graphics, live PC video and Internet products."

"By working with two industry innovators -- Silicon Vision and VDOnet -- we offer the high volume PC markets a high standard of video quality, performance, and value for videoconferencing," said Art Swift, vice president of product marketing for Cirrus Logic's Graphics Company. "The CL-GD5480, with its open multimedia architecture, also supports an extensible platform for OEMs, enabling them to add capture cards, TV decoders and analog devices such as camcorders, for a versatile video communications solution."

The reference design kit is available to OEMs from Silicon Vision in sample quantities. The complete OEM reference design kit includes the reference board, schematics, bill of materials The list of components that make up a system. For example, a bill of materials for a house would include the cement block, lumber, shingles, doors, windows, plumbing, electric, heating and so on. , a complete database for PCB PCB: see polychlorinated biphenyl.
