Circuit Assembly Corp. Releases HSSDC Interconnect.

Business Editors and High-Tech Writers

IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 6, 2001

Circuit Assembly Corp. (CA) announced the release of their HSSDC HSSDC High Speed Serial Data Connector , High Speed Serial Data Connector, for use in high performance, mass storage applications. The connector uses fibre channel technology, providing high-speed data transfers.

The HSSDC connector is a shielded cable mount connector, transmitting 1 bit at a time, exceeding 1 Gigabit/second and providing increased bandwidth over long distances. CA's ferrule A ceramic, plastic or stainless steel part of a fiber-optic plug that holds the end of the fiber and precisely aligns it to the socket. The fiber is inserted into the ferrule and cemented with an epoxy or adhesive, which gives it long-term mechanical strength and prevents contamination  and fully shielded enclosure provides greater EMI (ElectroMagnetic Interference) An electrical disturbance in a system due to natural phenomena, low-frequency waves from electromechanical devices or high-frequency waves (RFI) from chips and other electronic devices. Allowable limits are governed by the FCC.  protection. The connector is available with two sizes of ferrule to accommodate 22-28 AWG (American Wiring Gauge) A U.S. measurement standard of the diameter of non-ferrous wire, which includes copper and aluminum. In general, the thicker the wire, the greater the current-carrying capacity and the longer the distance it can span.  cable.

CA's interconnect has a unique PCB PCB: see polychlorinated biphenyl.

design with the 8 surface mount contacts on the top side of the board and the 4 solder pads on the underside of the board. CA's PCB is an unequalized, multi-layer board, with maximum signal separation. The internal PCB is terminated to plug contacts on one end and the cable on the other end. CA's PCB is an optional feature of this connector. The connector must have a PCB, but may be compatible with other PCB manufacturers' products.

Circuit Assembly will also be offering Fibre Channel cable assemblies with copper-based cables. These assemblies are available using the 8-pin HSSDC connector or the selectively loaded 9-pin FCP D-sub plugs, or a combination of the two connectors.

Circuit Assembly is a member of the Fibre Channel Industry Association (FCIA FCIA

). The FCIA was formed in 1999 to set the standard for the Fibre Channel Technology. CA's design follows the SFF-8420 spec, the common specification for the HSSDC connector for copper cable.

With headquarters in Irvine, Circuit Assembly has three decades of experience as a leading developer of interface connectors and cable assemblies for the electronics industry. The company delivers a host of interconnect products for multiple applications.
