In booth SL-4987 at NAB, Ciprico will demonstrate the InfiniBand Bridge and MediaVault 4110s running a short western film shot in 4K by DALSA at the Paramount Ranch. The Origin 4K camera has been used successfully to shoot several productions including "Postcards from the Future," directed by Alan Chan, and most recently a project directed by Jesse Dylan featuring the pop group, "The Black Eyed Peas This article is about the American hip hop group. The Ciprico MediaVault InfiniBand Bridge and 4110 package are optimized to meet the stringent storage demands of working in a 4K format for a variety of post production applications. The packaged solution combines the InfiniBand Bridge server, which aggregates multiple 4110 RAID units, each of which has a single 4Gb Fibre Channel controller and ten non-removable disks in a compact 1U rack-mounted enclosure, into a larger, faster, easily managed system capable of delivering 20Gb performance. Benefiting this solution are the 4110 array's new expansion and RAID 6 features, which enable the connection of multiple units in a "daisy chain Connected in series, one after the other. Transmitted signals go to the first device, then to the second and so on.

" configuration, giving the user Read and Write speeds of up to 380 MB/s per interface and capacity expansion into the tens of terabytes, at the same time increasing reliability and fault tolerance to the extent of ensuring data integrity even in the event of two drive failures. The 4110 array is compatible with Apple Macintosh, Windows, Unix and Linux platforms, as well as major brands of video editing software Video editing software is application software which handles the editing of video sequences on a computer. It usually includes the ability to import and export video, cut and paste sections of a video clip, and add special effects and transitions; and it sometimes includes the , capture/playback hardware and post-production software.

"Ciprico is pleased to team with DALSA to provide a robust solution to deliver data storage for this real-time 4K configuration," states Mike Anderson, Chief Engineer for Ciprico. "A variety of applications including digital intermediates, real-time 2K and 4K color correction, scanning and recording for visual effects and a full-range video versioning will be aided greatly by the new expanded options and features of the MediaVault family. DALSA is a proven world leader in developing imaging technology and Ciprico shares a vision to deliver reliability, performance and value. We look forward to NAB attendees seeing first-hand the digital media palette that is at the center of the artist's ability to create, manage and archive their content."

Deanan DaSilva of the DALSA Special Projects Team which tested the Ciprico products concurs, "We see an increased demand on the production and post production sides for 2K and 4K and storage has been one of the biggest hurdles to overcome. Out of all the storage vendors we considered, Ciprico is uniquely attuned at·tune

to where the industry is headed. Recording in 4K requires a high performance RAID solution with multiple high-speed drives recording in parallel. Since 1.2 Gigabytes per second fills a Terabyte of storage in less than 15 minutes, the storage component must be large as well as fast. The Ciprico InfiniBand Bridge and MediaVault(TM) 4110 combination meets the challenge."
