CinemaNow, Inc., the leader in Internet-based video-on-demand distribution and technology, today announced an agreement with Pioneer Entertainment (USA) Inc., the largest supplier of Japanese animation ("anime") to the United States, to premiere the feature film "Armitage Dual-Matrix" on CinemaNow.com on June 25, 2002, the same day of the film's DVD release. This is the first time that a major anime feature film release has premiered simultaneously on DVD and via the Internet.

"Armitage Dual-Matrix," which features the voice of Juliette Lewis ("Natural Born Killers," "Cape Fear") is the follow up to the extremely successful anime film "Armitage Poly-Matrix," considered by many to be one of the finest anime films of all time and a cult-classic amongst anime enthusiasts. As part of the agreement, CinemaNow will make "Armitage Dual-Matrix" available as a free stream only on June 25, the DVD release date. In addition, the original film, "Armitage Poly-Matrix," is currently available as a stream or download, and will run through July 15 as either a pay-per-view selection or as part of CinemaNow's Premium Pass subscription.

"Previously, CinemaNow's new releases have been made available in the traditional pay-per-view window which is after its home video and DVD release," said Bruce Eisen, executive vice president of CinemaNow. "Premiering a film as popular as 'Armitage Dual-Matrix' on CinemaNow the same day as it is released on DVD is a major step forward for Internet distribution and we are thrilled that Pioneer Entertainment is partnering with us to execute this groundbreaking online strategy."

Pioneer Entertainment will further promote the release of "Armitage Dual-Matrix" through an aggressive marketing campaign that includes an online sweepstakes via the CinemaNow Web site (www.cinemanow.com) featuring a Pioneer home entertainment system as the center prize package, cross-links between Pioneer's extremely popular animation Web site (www.pioneeranimation.com) and the official Armitage franchise Web site (www.armitagedvd.com) to CinemaNow, as well as a targeted print campaign aimed at specialty and niche publications.

Jill Sanderson, marketing consultant to Pioneer Entertainment, said, "Pioneer Entertainment believes that the Internet can act as an effective marketing tool, especially for niche-oriented genres such as anime. CinemaNow provides us with the ideal outlet to securely deliver content to promote new and catalog releases."
