Classical music fans will get the chance to see performances from New York's Metropolitan Opera House when shows are broadcast live at the Tyneside Cinema in Newcastle. Broadcasts of world class opera and live plays have been screened at the popular cinema since it reopened in 2008. The cinema's programme manager Jonny Tull said: "We are ecstatic ec·stat·ic adj. 1. Marked by or expressing ecstasy. 2. Being in a state of ecstasy; joyful or enraptured. [French extatique, from Greek ekstatikos, from that we can now screen the Metropolitan Opera's world-class productions at the Tyneside. "It's a great opportunity for opera and cinema lovers in the region, who would probably never get the chance to see these high-quality performances, live and as they happen." The season begins with Puccini's Tosca next Saturday at 6pm, followed by Verdi's Aida on October 24 and Puccini's Turandot on November 7. Tickets range from pounds 18 to pounds 25.
