Cinema goes back in time.


A NOSTALGIC afternoon at the cinema is promised for people who remember going to see films at Coventry's old Gaumont, later the Odeon cinema, in Jordan Well.

The former cinema, which has been refurbished for use by performing arts students at Coventry University The expanding main campus is situated on the east side of Coventry city centre, which boasts one of the most innovative (and unusual-looking) university libraries in the UK. The university is particularly noted for its world-renowned automotive design and engineering degree courses as , is now known as the Ellen Terry Dame Ellen Terry, GBE (February 27 1848 – July 21 1928) was an English stage actress. But at 4pm tomorrow it will re-live its glory days with a showing of the classic Ealing comedy, Passage to Pimlico.

Admission is free - provided audiences are willing to spend a little time after the film sharing their reminiscences of the cinema. Jane Wynn, one of the research assistants at the university, is organising ice-cream and popcorn.

The university is even laying on a light supper and a minibus min·i·bus

University communications officer Ali Bushnell said: "Passport to Pimlico was directed by Henry Cornelius and first shown in 1959. It is quite possibly the best of the Ealing comedies."
