Cinema: MY LIFE AS A MOVIE - COURTNEY PINE.

Jazz star Courtney goes for small but perfectly formed gigs in the story of his life as a movie.

TITLE: Against All Odds

POSTER TAGLINE: Pop Versus Jazz: The Real Deal.

GENRE: It's a drama, about the truth.

WHAT'S THE STORY What's the Story was an American television program broadcast on the now defunct DuMont Television Network from 1951 to 1955. It was a game show originally hosted by Walt Raney. ? It's about me, obviously. I'm playing in a small, but packed club. At the break I'm relaxing in my dressing room when a top pop star comes to see me. He tells me to leave the world of jazz for pop and I can be like him, have a limo, a big house and loads of women. As the camera pans around the scene it shows pictures of me at my second home in the sun, with my lovely kids and great car. I tell the pop guy to enjoy the gig. The very next week he goes bust. His last song was a flop and he's back home living with his mum.

HOW TRUE TO LIFE IS IT? There are been loads of times that I've been offered to go into pop, but I love the world of jazz and want a long career.

WHO WOULD PLAY YOU? Rudolph Walker Rudolph Walker OBE (born 28 September, 1939) is a British character actor. Born in Trinidad and Tobago, Walker came to the United Kingdom in 1960.

He is known for his comedic roles in Love Thy Neighbour, The Thin Blue Line and in Ali G Indahouse
. He came to our school when I was about eight. I played recorder and he told me to keep at it.

WHO WOULD PLAY YOUR LOVE INTEREST? Janet Jackson or Angela Bassett.

WHO PLAYS THE BADDY baddy (inf) nBösewicht m ? Bob Hoskins or Ben Kingsley would play the record company exec who helps the pop star to persuade me to swap sides.

WHAT'S THE BIG SCENE? The main scene in the dressing room, where the pop star is boasting about his stadium tours and Aston Martin. But he doesn't realise how shortlived his career will be.

HAS IT GOT A HAPPY ENDING? For me it does - but not for the failed pop star.

Courtney's new album, Devotion, is out now. He plays the Royal Festival Hall The Royal Festival Hall is a concert, dance and talks venue within Southbank Centre in London, England. It is situated on the South Bank of the River Thames, not far from Hungerford Bridge.  on November 22 and will tour the UK next year.
