Governor Arnie?

After blathering on about it for years, Arnold Schwarzenegger (below) is aiming for a political career. Currently filming the next Terminator instalment, Arnie, 54, told Republicans he wants to be governor of California. He has targetted the 2006 race as he winds-down his big-screen career for a life in office. "Politics gives me a lot more satisfaction, much more than going down the red carpet or dodging bullets and causing explosions," he says.

Hugh eats Pie

Has Hugh Grant (below) thought this one through? The star will appear in American Pie 3 as a favour to directors Chris and Paul Weitz. Grant, 41, and the brothers became pals on the comedy About A Boy. In the film, heroes Jim, Stifler, Finch, Oz and Kevin head to Europe on a sex-crazed holiday and Hugh's character helps them be more successful with girls. Grant, caught with hooker Divine Brown, is obviously ready for some sex comedy at last.

Planet of the capes

The film charts the gargantuan battle between two superheroes, but the fight off-screen for the lead roles in Batman V Superman is becoming even more heated. Britain's own Jude Law (below) has emerged as favourite to land the Man Of Steel role beating stiff competition from Matt Damon and Johnny Depp. Irish actor Colin Farrell, also up for the role, is now being tipped to don the cape of Batman ahead of Welsh actor Christian Bale.

Buzz for Hornet 

Typical. You wait years for a comic book film and then along come loads at once. After Spider-Man and Batman V Superman, comes The Green Hornet. Miramax boss Harvey Weinstein spent three years on the script and wants Mark Wahlberg to star. "He'd be great and I'd love to team him with a major Asian actor as Kato, perhaps Jet Li or Jackie Chan," says Weinstein. The last Kato, you may recall, was a certain Bruce Lee.

Plasticine-stealers

In the film world, where imagination can be thin on the ground, there is one corner where quality counts. Aardman animation set standards that forced Hollywood to reappraise the way it tells stories. After the success of Chicken Run, the company reveals it is making The Great Vegetable Plot, a full-length film featuring Wallace And Gromit (below). Also lined up is another co-production with Dreamworks. Ratropolis, scripted by Porridge writers Dick Clement and Ian LaFrenais begins shooting this year.
