Cinema: Head to head - Mike Myers & Tommy Lee Jones.

They are both here to save the world, in their own peculiar fashions. Straight out of the Swinging Sixties comes Mike Myers, who plays a hip spy in Austin Powers In Goldmember. And representing the 21st century is tough guy Tommy Lee Jones who, as Agent Kay in Men In Black II, is on a mission to rid Earth of alien scum. Both are undoubtedly out of this world, but who is the real hero?

MIKE MYERS

AGE: 39.

BACKGROUND: His encyclopaedia salesman father Eric was born in Liverpool, but emigrated to Canada. In 1963 Mike was born in Scarborough, Ontario. He got his first taste of performing when he appeared at the age of nine in a TV commercial with Gilda Radner. At school he loved ice hockey and dreamt of becoming a professional, but he found a talent for amusing his classmates with impersonations and jokes, so decided to try and make it on the stage instead. 7/10

THE MAN, THE MOVIES: After high school, he was accepted by Toronto's Second City comedy ensemble, becoming a stand-up before joining Saturday Night Live in 1989. Stardom came via the Wayne's World films, Austin Powers and a voiceover in Shrek (2001). 7/10

SUPERHERO OR SUPERCHUMP: He loves the English, especially Liverpool FC and Monty Python. He's shy and hates being touched. Apparently he met his wife Robin at a hockey game when she was hit in the face by the puck. 7/10

THE VERDICT: 21/30 Odds are that Tommy would whip Mike's ass.

TOMMY LEE JONES

AGE: 45

BACKGROUND: Born in San Saba, Texas, his dad was an underwater construction expert on oil rigs. On a scholarship to the prestigious St Mark's School Of Texas, he won another to Harvard University where his room-mate was Al Gore. Tommy was a star sportsman, gained one of the highest degrees of his year and got his first Broadway role in 1969. 8/10

THE MAN, THE MOVIES: While still on Broadway, he appeared in Love Story and on soaps, Charlie's Angels and TV movies before he hit it big playing killer Gary Gilmore in The Executioner's Song (1982). More recent hits include JFK, The Fugitive, Men In Black and Batman Forever. 7/10

SUPERHERO OR SUPERCHUMP? A man's man. He plays polo and raises horses on his 3,000-acre ranch near San Antonio, Texas. Now with third wife Dawn Laurel, he has two kids - Austin, 19, and Victoria Kafka, 11 - from his second marriage. 8/10

THE VERDICT: 23/30 He's the daddy! It would take Tommy roughly five minutes to sort out Dr Evil.
