Cinco de Mayo Celebration at BART; Bien Venidos a Todos en la Celebracion de Cinco de Mayo.OAKLAND, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 30, 1999-- On Wednesday, May 5, lively ethnic music, song and dance will shake the tranquility of the plaza above BART's Lake Merritt station in Oakland as BART celebrates Cinco de Mayo. The public is invited to come and join in the festivities from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the plaza level, 800 Madison Street in Oakland (above the Lake Merritt BART Station). Linda Vasquez, Chairperson, BART Employees Cinco de Mayo Committee will preside at the occasion, which will include brief remarks by BART Deputy General Manager Dorothy Dugger, BART Director Carole Ward Allen and a host of special guests, including: Auturo Balderas, Deputy Consulate, Consulado General de Mexico; Berta Villalva, representing Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 1555; Norma del Mercado, President, American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME AFSCME - American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees) Local 3993; Dennis Kaczor, President, Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 790, Maintenance & Clerical Chapter; and Suzanne Angeli, President, Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 790, Professional Chapter. In addition, the Bay Area's talented "Folklorico La Familia" and "Baile Folklorico Olin de Contra Costa" will perform to the tunes of Mariachi Nationale de Mexico. The day's activities will include a flag-raising ceremony by the USCG USCG - United States Coast Guard Color Guard of Alameda. Refreshments will be served. |
