Cigna forms education alliance to jump-start retirement savings in America; Four communications experts to increase national savings rate in alliance complementing new campaign by U.S. Department of Labor.


WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 19, 1995--CIGNA Retirement & Investment Services today announced it has formed an alliance of leading workplace communications experts to develop innovative strategies designed to increase America's personal savings rate Savings rate

"America needs to jump-start retirement savings," said Douglas E. Klinger, senior vice president of CIGNA's Marketing & Business Development. "Despite intense news media coverage of the need to save and employers' best efforts to encourage savings in the workplace, American savings patterns are not changing."

"But by carefully targeting communications to diverse groups such as Spanish-speaking employees or part-time workers, CIGNA has been able to significantly increase employee interest in saving and investing in a 401 (k)," said Amanda M. Sherwin, vice president and director of CIGNA's communications to employers and their employees. "CIGNA Benefits Education Alliance was formed to help employers break through these and other barriers to personal savings."
