In addition, Ciena is demonstrating Fast Reroute for MPLS-based network resiliency and guaranteed service delivery. Highlighted in the demonstration are the DN 7000 series' Gigabit Ethernet interfaces and the Multiservice Forwarding Module (MSFM MSFM Magnetospheric Forecast Model

Ciena's DN 7000 series products, which offer industry-leading 99.9999% reliability, are deployed in RBOC (Regional Bell Operating Company) The Bell telephone companies that were spun off of AT&T by court order in 1984 (the Divestiture). Also known as the "Baby Bells," the initial seven RBOCs were Nynex, Bell Atlantic, BellSouth, Southwestern Bell, US West,  and other large wireline and wireless service provider networks worldwide in support of a diverse range of applications, including broadband aggregation (DSL and FTTx), business data services and 2G/3G mobile backhaul.

"MPLS and Ethernet solutions offered by the DN 7000 series products enable service providers to cost-effectively evolve their networks and capitalize on new services such as the triple play, MPLS-based VPNs and 3G wireless data," said Stephen Alexander, CTO of Ciena. "To make these network migrations a reality, however, wide-scale interoperability is critical. As this marks our third year in MPLS interoperability events, Ciena has an active role in the standards-based research, development and implementation of IP/MPLS IP/MPLS Internet Protocol/Multi-Protocol Label Switching  technology to help our customers achieve their goals for network migration and convergence."

Ciena is a participant and contributing member in standards bodies and industry forums related to MPLS, including the IETF, the MFA Forum and the Metro Ethernet Forum The Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) was founded in 2002. It is a non-profit international industry consortium, dedicated to worldwide adoption of Carrier Ethernet networks and services.  (MEF).

About Ciena's DN 7000 Series

Ciena's DN 7000 series multiservice edge switches offer a wide spectrum of cost-effective Ethernet and IP/MPLS service delivery from modern data-aware access networks to the traditional edge of the core. The products provide industry-leading pseudowire and virtual circuit scalability coupled with unmatched 99.9999% carrier class reliability. The DN 7000 series is a family of products, which includes three models that share common hardware and software, thereby decreasing sparing requirements and simplifying system operation and management.
