: A) announced today that Cicada will use the Agilent 93000 SOC Series Test System for volume production of Cicada's SimpliPHY(TM) Series of 10/100/1000BASE-T Gigabit Ethernet-over-copper transceivers.

The Agilent 93000 Test series provides Cicada with unmatched digital, analog, SerDes, multi-site test scalability, and throughput for complex, high speed, communications chip designs. Additionally, semiconductor contract manufacturers (SCM (1) (Software Configuration Management, Source Code Management) See configuration management.

) from Asia to Austin offer widespread engineering development and high volume production test based on the Agilent SOC platform.

"We are utilizing the Agilent 93000 SOC test platform to develop and deploy cost effective test solutions for Cicada's rapidly growing communications IC product line, which spans high volume LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used.  (Gigabit Ethernet), WAN (T3/E3) and Internet Access (DSL DSL

"Agilent's experienced test engineering staff has enabled us to get our prototype devices tested and characterized in time to meet our critical market windows. Their comprehensive local and global support and installed base of testers has been instrumental in allowing us to make the transition from design house to a high volume, fabless semiconductor company A fabless semiconductor company specializes in the design and sale of hardware devices implemented on semiconductor chips. It achieves an advantage by outsourcing the fabrication of the devices to a specialized semiconductor manufacturer called a semiconductor foundry or "fab. ."

"Agilent's 93000 test system is enabling Cicada to deliver cost effective Gigabit Ethernet networking," said Tom Newsom, vice-president and general manager of Agilent's SOC Business Unit. "Our scalable Agilent 93000 family, combined with worldwide engineering and production service support, will allow Cicada to rapidly bring to market industry-leading, wire-line communications for Gigabit Ethernet networking throughout LAN, WAN and SAN markets."

About The SimpliPHY(TM) Transceiver Family

Cicada's SimpliPHY(TM) Series of Gigabit Ethernet transceivers, introduced in May at Networld + Interop trade show in Las Vegas, includes the CIS Cis (sĭs), same as Kish (1.)

The CIS8204's extremely low power dissipation of less than 1 Watt per port enables pervasive, low cost deployment of Gigabit Ethernet to desktop PCs, throughout data centers, and in rapidly emerging Storage Area Networks (SAN).

About the Agilent 93000 SOC Series Test System

The Agilent 93000 SOC Series Test System covers wide-ranging applications, including analog, buses, communications, and digital and embedded memory. Scalable architecture allows for pay-per-use speed, memory upgrades, higher utilization, increased reliability, smaller footprint and increased longevity and stability. Flexibility enables the Agilent 93000 SOC Series to excel in situations where unpredictability and high channel mix predominate.

About Cicada Semiconductor

Cicada Semiconductor is a leading developer of DSP (1) (Digital Signal Processor) A special-purpose CPU used for digital signal processing applications (see definition #2 below). It provides ultra-fast instruction sequences, such as shift and add, and multiply and add, which are commonly used in math-intensive  and mixed signal based silicon solutions that enable broadband communications within Local, Wide, and Storage Area Networks. Using proprietary design and simulation methodologies and Cicada's extensive expertise in providing digital communication solutions, the Company designs, develops, and manufactures integrated circuits for some of the most significant broadband communications markets, including high-speed Local Area Networking (Gigabit Ethernet), telecommunications (T3), and broadband Internet access Broadband Internet access, often shortened to just "broadband", is high speed Internet access—typically contrasted with dial-up access over modem.

Dial-up modems are generally only capable of a maximum bitrate of 56 kbit/s (kilobits per second) and require the full use of a
