Suzano de Papel e Celulose and of its subsidiary Bahia Sul Celulose gave the "go-ahead" for the detailed engineering and economic feasibility studies The analysis of a problem to determine if it can be solved effectively. The operational (will it work?), economical (costs and benefits) and technical (can it be built?) aspects are part of the study. Results of the study determine whether the solution should be implemented.  for the second pulp line on the Bahia plant, in Mucuri, at Bahia Sul Celulose SA.

With an annual production capacity of 1.0 million tons, the new line involves investments of approximately US$ 1.2 billion and the start-up is expected for the first quarter of 2007. With this second pulp line, the total annual capacity of the Bahia plant will reach 1.65 million tons.

The detailed engineering studies and the plan for a long-term funding structure compatible with the expansion project will be immediately started, and the final approval is expected for the second half of 2004.

The Company's Management believes that this project will significantly expand the future business prospects of the Company and, considering its cost competitiveness and production scale, represents another step towards the consolidation of an important position in the global eucalyptus eucalyptus (y'kəlĭp`təs): see myrtle.
