Providing his expertise for the Commonwealth's high school students, Neil Chyten, president of Chyten Educational Services, participated as a judge for the essay writing portion of the competition. These schools represented the top scorers from over 40 original schools that had competed in three separate, regional contests in Massachusetts last November. DECATHLON BACKGROUND Now in its twenty-fifth season, The Decathlon covers Economics, Language and Literature, Mathematics, Music, Fine Arts, and Social Science. The curricular theme for 2005-2006 is the European Renaissance. A unique aspect of the program is that each nine-member team must consist of three students each with "A", "B" and "C" grade point averages. Students may be in any grade. High school staff members coach the teams, devoting many hours in helping their students prepare for the rigors of competition day. An unlimited number of alternates may also compete.
