Churchill blanks South.


Byline: The Register-Guard

Rachel Steigleman finished 3-for-4 with a homer and two doubles, and Julie Keep pitched a four-hit shutout as Churchill beat South Eugene 4-0 in a Midwestern League softball game Wednesday.

Steigleman's homer was her second of the season, and she knocked in two runs. Jodi Parmer added two hits for Churchill.

Springfield 7, Sheldon 0

Brieanne Thurn pitched a two-hit shutout with 14 strikeouts as the Millers won to remain undefeated in league play.

April Drews drove in two runs with a single in the fifth inning for Springfield, and the Millers added five runs in the sixth.

Sky-Em League

Marist 10, La Pine 0

LA PINE - Caley Peterson surrendered two first-inning singles and then held the Hawks hitless the rest of the way to help the Spartans remain undefeated (6-0) in league play.

Pleasant Hill 12, Cottage Grove 0

PLEASANT HILL - Janet Freerks knocked in three runs, and Kayley Saxon combined with Connie Farnsworth on a one-hit shutout as the Billies dominated the Lions.

Glide 4, Sutherlin 3

SUTHERLIN - Megan Meyer doubled to lead off the top of the eighth inning and eventually scored on a passed ball to give the Wildcats the win over the Bulldogs.

Far West League

Siuslaw 7, Bandon 6

FLORENCE - Charnae Little knocked in three runs and Courtney Harrington allowed only one earned run to help the Vikings beat the Tigers.

Brookings 14, Coquille 1

COQUILLE - The Bruins exploded for 18 hits, including a fifth-inning grand slam by Lacey Gorman, to win in a game shortened to five innings by the 10-run rule.

Val-Co League

Taft 2, Waldport 0

WALDPORT - Ashley Birdsong pitched a one-hitter with 14 strikeouts as the Tigers beat the Irish.
