Churchill Downs Seeks 'Chief Party Officer' to Lead Infield Festivities at Kentucky Derby 135.

Reigning CPO to Recruit Party-Hardy Applicants at Super Bowl XLIII

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- With the official countdown to Kentucky Derby 135 on May 2, 2009, now underway, Churchill Downs, the legendary racetrack that hosts the annual "Run for the Roses," is accepting applications for the best "job" in America: Chief Party Officer ("CPO") of the 2009 Kentucky Derby infield. The search for the ideal executive officer of The People's Party will begin at the first major sporting event of the year - Super Bowl XLIII in Tampa, Fla. - and will continue on the social networking site Facebook through Feb. 28.

"The Kentucky Derby infield offers a one-of-a-kind, all-out party atmosphere that is a crucial part of the Derby tradition," said Dave Tompkins, chief marketing officer for Churchill Downs Incorporated. "The non-stop revelry can test the most die-hard partiers, so a CPO candidate must be able to take the reins and lead our infield nation to new heights of fun and frivolity. We're encouraging anyone who's ever wanted to be a part of the infield experience to apply for the best 'job' in America - the chance to reign over one of the biggest, boldest bashes of the year."

To enter the 2009 Kentucky Derby Chief Party Officer contest, fans must:

* Record a two-minute video explaining why they have what it takes to lead the biggest party in the nation;

* Visit the official CPO Web site, www.chiefpartyofficer.com, to fill out the official entry form and review official contest rules; and

* Follow the link provided to upload their video applications to the official CPO Facebook page, where video entries can be viewed by and shared with Facebook users.

There are a number of perks to serving as the public ambassador for the Kentucky Derby infield, which annually draws approximately 100,000 fans within the Louisville, Ky., racetrack during Derby weekend. The newly named CPO will preside over the infield encampment for three days: Festival in the Field, Kentucky Oaks Day and Kentucky Derby Day. The CPO's luxurious "boardroom on wheels" Derby weekend will be a deluxe recreational vehicle provided by the Tom Stinnett R.V. Freedom Center of Clarksville, Ind., designed to offer food and hospitality, private wagering machines, games and activities, a photo booth, and a chance for 2009 infield partiers to tape audition videos for the 2010 CPO contest. In the days leading up to Kentucky Derby 135, the CPO will make a number of public appearances at Churchill Downs and at official Derby Week events, making the CPO the official infield "spokesperson" in media interviews.

At Super Bowl XLIII, reigning 2008 CPO Tim "Stymie" Snyder will personally recruit CPO applicants who are visiting the Super Bowl host site, Raymond James Stadium, and attending the many ancillary events leading up to the big game on Sunday, Feb. 1.

"As reigning Kentucky Derby Chief Party Officer, I know how important it is to help Churchill Downs find my successor, and what better place to begin our search than at the first big sports party of the year," said "Stymie" Snyder. "The Super Bowl makes sense as the kick-off point for CPO recruitment because it's just like the Kentucky Derby - it brings fans together for an event bigger than the sport itself. You can celebrate it in person, at Churchill Downs, or with your buddies at a Kentucky Derby party anywhere in the world. We will be reaching out to football fans on Feb. 1, but really to anyone who wants the best 'job' in America. The Derby has 135 years of serious party 'cred,' and it's up to the CPO to keep it going!"

Churchill Downs will create a mini CPO "boardroom party" at 3426 W. Tampa Bay Blvd. (corner of Tampa Bay Blvd. and Himes Street), just across from Raymond James Stadium and in close proximity to other scheduled Super Bowl festivities. Fans who visit Stymie in the mobile CPO boardroom can enter the 2009 CPO contest immediately by having Churchill Downs representatives videotape their entry on the spot. Music and games, Derby-themed contests, and a chance to win free tickets to Kentucky Derby 135 will also be offered at the CPO Super Bowl party location.

The mobile CPO boardroom at Super Bowl XLIII will be open during the following times (all times Eastern):

* Thursday, Jan. 29, from 3 - 11 p.m.

* Friday, Jan. 30, from 3-11 p.m.

* Saturday, Jan. 31, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

* Sunday, Feb. 1, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

To be eligible for the 2009 Kentucky Derby Chief Party Officer contest, entrants must be legal residents of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia and between the ages of 21 and 34 at the time of entry. CPO video applications will be accepted from Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009, through Friday, Feb. 28, 2009, at which time entries will close. Churchill Downs representatives will evaluate all video entries and select a winner of the 2009 Kentucky Derby Chief Party Officer contest on March 6, 2009. The winning contestant will be notified by Churchill Downs and will be subject to a background check.
