Churches feel the pain.


TORONTO--Canadian churches face cutbacks and even bankruptcy bankruptcy, in law, settlement of the liabilities of a person or organization wholly or partially unable to meet financial obligations. The purposes are to distribute, through a court-appointed receiver, the bankrupt's assets equitably among creditors and, in most  for their past treatment of native children in church-run boarding schools It may never be fully completed or, depending on its its nature, it may be that it can never be completed. However, new and revised entries in the list are always welcome. .

Besides accusations of physical and sexual abuse, former students of about 100 Indian Residential Schools have charged church bodies and the government with cultural genocide Cultural genocide is a political and rhetorical term used to describe the deliberate destruction of the cultural heritage of a people or nation for political, military, religious, ideological, ethnical, or racial reasons.  for removal and isolation of children from their families and the suppression suppression /sup·pres·sion/ (su-presh´un)

Beginning in the second half of the 19th century and lasting into the 1960s, the Canadian government delegated the major Canadian denominations--the Anglican, Catholic, Presbyterian, and United churches--to operate residential schools, half of which were run by the Catholic Church.

Now, faced with legal fees and potential settlement costs in the billions, the Anglican Church of Canada--which, along with the other churches, has been named in thousands of lawsuits--has cut staff and programs, witnessed a vote to disband dis·band
