THIS is a short walk between two picturesque villages. Much-photographed Tredington is dominated by its magnificent church and spire spire, high, tapering structure crowning a tower and having a general pyramidal outline. The simplest spires were the steeply pitched timber roofs capping Romanesque towers and campaniles. whose history goes back to Saxon times. It is reported that the villagers often took refuge in the church to escape the attentions of the marauding ma·raud v. ma·raud·ed, ma·raud·ing, ma·rauds v.intr. HOW TO GET THERE Go to Princethorpe from Coventry on the A423 and turn right on to Fosse Way Fosse Way (fŏs), Roman road in England. It apparently ran from Exeter (Isca Dumnoniorum) NE past Bath (Aquae Sulis), Cirencester (Corinium Dobunnorum), and Leicester (Ratae Coritanorum) to Lincoln (Lindum). It intersected Watling Street. . Continue to Halford and turn right at the Armscote sign and at the village bear left at the Blackwell sign. At the village fork right and go on to park near the village green on your left. GR 240434 Cross to the road on the opposite side of the green and turn left into the village. Go straight ahead to the second crossroads with the village hall opposite on the left. Cross into the lane with a traffic sign for Tredington and follow it to the main road and cross with care to the pavement and turn left. In 150 yards turn right into the lane to Tredington and at the main road cross carefully into Old Tredington with the church on your right. Follow the lane as it curves to the left to rejoin re·join 1 v. re·joined, re·join·ing, re·joins v.tr. To say in reply, especially in sharp response to a reply. v.intr. To reply. the main road and turn left past the White Lion. Re-enter the Blackwell Road on the right and follow it to the main road. Turn left for 150 yards and carefully cross on to the lane leading back to Blackwell but do not go on. Look for an unmarked stile in the fence on your left on the mouth of the farm drive and enter the field. Curve to the left to a pedestrian gate and sleeper bridge about midway along the top of the field and step on to the farm drive. Turn right through a field gate and continue along the wooden fence and the tree line on your right as it makes a wide sweep to the left. Off the bridge go straight on but veering gently to the left and aim for the stile and field gate when it comes into view. Turn right along the road and go ahead over the second crossroads. Turn left to return to the village green. |
