As of last night, $663,350 had been pledged, bringing the parish more than halfway to its $1.3 million goal. The money is needed to pay for roof, masonry and gutter work that has been completed and to upgrade the bathrooms, kitchen and classroom areas of the lower hall in the Rosary church building. An elevator will also be installed to make the building more accessible to handicapped people. Preliminary work has started and St. Mary's Church will soon be demolished. Since then, during a series of meetings, the parish's members decided to focus on repairing the Rosary church and agreed to undertake the fundraising effort. In the past two weeks, a mass mailing has gone out to those associated with the parish. Corporate sponsors have been sought and some telephone solicitations have begun. Mr. Pervier said those who donate to the United Way can call that agency and ask to have their donations earmarked for the parish since it is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization Nonprofit Organization An association that is given tax-free status.
