A recent survey in the French Catholic daily La Croix La Croix is a French, Roman Catholic, daily newspaper. It is published in Paris and distributed throughout the country, with a circulation of just under 100,000. It is neither explicitly liberal or conservative on major political issues, but follows the Church's position  has shown that about 75 percent of French citizens have never read the Bible, and around 50 percent say they adhere to adhere to

But there is also good news for the Church in France: adult baptisms, which currently average 9,000 a year, are up on previous years, and there has been a marked increase in people seeking retreats at more than 300 monasteries and convents around France.
