Church & State: way too scary?I would like to say a heart-felt thank you to all that you do in the name of liberty. I am a proud "card-carrying" member, and only wish I had George Soros' fortune to bestow be·stow tr.v. be·stowed, be·stow·ing, be·stows 1. To present as a gift or an honor; confer: bestowed high praise on the winners. 2. upon AU. I am happy to be receiving your fine magazine, but I have one glaring complaint. Reading my issue of Church & State makes me really depressed! While I truly believe that the majority in this wonderful country does not want to impose its will upon others, I am compelled as I turn the pages of your publication to shake my head in disbelief at your spoton, no-holds-barred reporting of the insanity insanity, mental disorder of such severity as to render its victim incapable of managing his affairs or of conforming to social standards. Today, the term insanity is used chiefly in criminal law, to denote mental aberrations or defects that may relieve a person from that is the Religious Right. It dismays me to no end that people who are so blind to the truth, and to reason, hold such sway over so many Americans. I know you are only reporting the truth, and I certainly do not believe in shooting the messenger. But it's high time those of us who truly do love liberty had some truly good news to celebrate. (Yeah, the court telling Roy Moore For the baseball player, see . Roy Moore is a controversial American jurist and politician noted for his refusal, as the elected Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Alabama, to remove a monument of the Ten Commandments from the courthouse despite orders from a federal court to get over himself was definitely nice to read.) If I have to read any more about Christian Reconstructionists gaining inroads inroads Noun, pl make inroads into to start affecting or reducing: my gambling has made great inroads into my savings inroads npl to make inroads into [+ , the ridiculous furor furor /fu·ror/ (fu´ror) fury; rage. furor epilep´ticus an attack of intense anger occurring in epilepsy. over gay marriage or the "under-the-radar" hiring of Religious Right lawyers at the Justice Department, I don't think I can stand it. It often seems like a "one step forward, two steps back" quagmire we are living in. In spite of the fact that I often dread opening Church & State, it definitely tells the stories that the popular media seems to gloss over Verb 1. gloss over - treat hurriedly or avoid dealing with properly skate over, skimp over, slur over, smooth over do by, treat, handle - interact in a certain way; "Do right by her"; "Treat him with caution, please"; "Handle the press reporters gently" or neglect. Thank you for sticking up for those of us who value the things that truly make this country great: reason and liberty. Mailey McLaughlin Atlanta, Ga. |
