Chronic hepatitis C trial initiated in Mexico using Interferon Sciences' natural-source alpha interferon.NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J.--(HealthWire)--July 8, 1996--Interferon IFN Sciences Inc. (ISI) (Nasdaq:IFSC IFSC - International Fuzzy Systems Conference Any of a group of glycoproteins that are produced by different cell types in response to various stimuli, such as exposure to viruses, and that block viral replication in newly infected cells and, in some cases, modulate specific cellular functions. IFSC - Irish Financial Services Centre) announced today that its licensee, Industria Farmaceutica Andromaco (Andromaco), has commenced a clinical trial in Mexico utilizing ISI's injectable formulation of Interferon Alfa-n3, the Company's highly purified, multispecies, natural-source alpha interferon, for the treatment of patients infected with chronic hepatitis C virus. This study is sponsored by Andromaco under both U.S. and Mexican Investigational New Drug (IND) applications, and is being conducted at the National Institute of Nutrition in Mexico City. Patients in this study are treated using a different treatment schedule and frequency from that used in previous trials conducted by ISI on patients infected with chronic hepatitis C virus. The results of this trial will provide information to help evaluate the safety and efficacy of this altered treatment regimen. In February 1994, ISI entered into a distribution agreement with Andromaco in Mexico for its Interferon Alfa-n3 injectable product.
