It covered the municipalities in the metropolitan Copenhagen area, with the exception of Copenhagen and Frederiksberg. , Glostrup Hospital, Glostrup, Denmark), Foot Ankle Int. 1999;20:304-306.

This study investigated the response of athletic individuals with chronic peritendinitis to a conservative treatment regimen. Twenty-two patients (18 men, 4 women)with a mean age of 38.5 years (range=22-52 years) and a clinical diagnosis of peritendinitis or inflammation of the tendon sheath Tendon sheath

Treatment consisted of the use of a heel lift (1 cm) for 3 months, massage, stretching of the triceps surae The triceps surae is a term given by some anatomists to the gastrocnemius and soleus muscles together as they both insert into the calcaneus, the bone of the heel of the human foot, and form the major part of the muscle of the back part of the lower leg (the calf; otherwise known  muscle twice per week for 3 weeks, and a training program that lasted for 6 months or less if a return to sports was indicated. Exercises consisted of a graduated program of heel raises conducted twice per day, preceded by a warm-up of 5 to 10 minutes and followed by stretching of the triceps surae muscle and finally cooling of the tendon for 1 minute. Graduated bouts of walking combined with jogging jogging

A follow-up questionnaire at 5 years (range=53-72 months) was completed by 91% of the subjects. The average treatment duration was 2.7 months (range= 1-5 months), and 91% of subjects reported attenuation Loss of signal power in a transmission.

of symptoms. At follow-up, 65% of the subjects considered their condition resolved or improved, and 13 of 17 subjects returned to sports. On a 15-point Wallgren-Tegner Activity Scale, the mean score improved from 6.6 prior to treatment to 9.1 at the termination of treatment, and it remained approximately level 5 years after treatment ceased.

The authors concluded that these results document the long-term effectiveness of a nonsurgical treatment approach to chronic Achilles tendinopathy, and they recommended the inclusion of active training in rehabilitation rehabilitation: see physical therapy. . They further recommended the need for surgery in the event that a conservative approach is unsuccessful after 3 to 6 months.
