Christopher Scoates has been appointed director of the University
Art Museum at University of California (UC) Long Beach. Formerly Chief
Curator for the University Art Museum (UAM) at UC Santa Barbara, Scoates
comes with 20 years of curatorial experience. In a press release he
stated, "I believe the mission of a university art museum is to
pursue the margins, explore unknown territory, rediscover the familiar
and take risks. It is my goal to guide the UAM with the conviction that
contemporary art is a vital social force that extends beyond the art
world and into broader culture."
