Christopher & Banks Corporation Reports a 12% Increase in May Same-Store Sales; First Quarter Same-Store Sales Increase 10%.

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 6, 2002

Christopher & Banks Corporation (Nasdaq: CHBS) today reported a 12% increase in May same-store sales Same-store sales is a business term which refers to the revenue generated by one of a retail chain's specific outlets during a certain period of time (often a fiscal quarter or a particular shopping season), compared to an identical period in the past, usually in the previous year.  for its four-week period ended June June: see month.  1, 2002.

Total sales for the four-week period ended June 1, 2002, rose 35% to $24.8 million from $18.3 million last year.

For the first quarter ended June 1, 2002, same-store sales increased 10%. Total sales for the first quarter increased 35% to $77.8 million from $57.6 million last year. As of June 1, 2002 the Company operated 391 stores compared to 315 stores as of June 2, 2001.

Bill Prange, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer commented, "The 12% increase in May same-store sales exceeded our expectations. Sales were the strongest in the first week of the month leading up to Mother's Day and in the last week of the month when the weather turned warm throughout our market area."

Mr. Prange concluded, "In addition to our robust same-store sales results, we are very pleased with the progress of our new store expansion program. We opened 45 new stores in the first quarter and expect to add 15 new stores in the second quarter and 30 new stores in the third quarter, resulting in a total of 90 new locations for the year.
