IF any readers are wondering what to buy for animal-mad children or young relatives this Christmas, I have an idea that could inspire them - as well as helping poorly pets.

Every year veterinary charity PDSA treats hundreds of thousands of pets belonging to people in need. To help pay for these vital services, we run kids' club Pet Protectors.

Annual membership is pounds 10 and, in return, young members receive a personalised membership card, wall planner, badge, a free gift and a subscription to Animal Antics, the club's magazine packed full of stories, posters, competitions and prizes.

Being a Pet Protector is a great way to learn about pet health and caring for a pet and, as the magazine subscription lasts all year, it's one present that won't be forgotten by Boxing Day.
