Christmas boost for motorists.


CHRISTMAS shoppers can benefit from free parking in Huddersfield town centre.

Kirklees Council announced the move yesterday in an attempt to boost trading.

Parking - both on-street and in council-run car parks - will be free from 4pm on Thursdays from November 19 until December 24 and all day on Sundays from November 22 until December 20.

Parking is also free on Bank Holidays meaning there will be no charges on Monday, December 28 or New Year's Day New Year's Day, among ancient peoples the first day of the year frequently corresponded to the vernal or autumnal equinox, or to the summer or winter solstice. In the Middle Ages it was celebrated among Christians usually on Mar. 25. .

Council leader Clr Mehboob Khan Mehboob Khan (1907 - 28 May 1964) was one of the many pioneers of Indian Cinema.

Khan was born Ramjan Khan in Bilimoria, Gujurat. He ran away from home to work small jobs in the studios of Bombay.
 thinks the move will boost town centre businesses.

He said: "Free parking offers real help to residents and traders alike and shows our commitment to tackling the effects of the recession.

"We want all our shopping areas to be attractive, exciting and easily accessible. Huddersfield has so much to offer all year round, but of course the Christmas trade can be especially important.

"There's lots going on over the next few weeks and the free parking on Thursdays and Sundays will provide an even bigger incentive to come along and join the festive fes·tive

Steven Pollitt, chairman of the Huddersfield Town Centre Partnership, added: "This is a real boost for the town centre and free parking will encourage people to come to Huddersfield."
