Christine Essel elected new CRA board chairwoman.


LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 7, 1995--Entertainment industry executive Christine Essel Thursday was elected by her fellow commissioners to become the new chairwoman of the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA See Community Reinvestment Act. ) Board of Commissioners.

She replaces Dan Garcia who resigned to join the city's Airports Commission.

Riordan ran for Governor of California unsuccessfully in 2002. . For the past year, Essel has been the board's vice chair.

Essel brings to CRA more than 20 years of experience in the entertainment industry with a solid background in development and real estate.

An ardent supporter of the revitalization of Hollywood, Essel for two years chaired the executive committee of the Hollywood Community Advisory Council, which advised CRA on redevelopment programs in Hollywood in the early 1990s.

She also has been involved with many other local organizations including the Hollywood Arts Council, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and the Hollywood Bowl Advisory Council.

Essel is active in about 20 different community and civic organizations ranging from the California Youth Theatre to Alternative Living for the Aging, for which she is now completing a two-year term as board president. She is currently a member of the California State Film Commission.

Essel is one of seven commissioners on the CRA governing board. The board sets policy for the nation's largest redevelopment agency. Charged with revitalizing blighted communities throughout the City of Los Angeles
