Christian Coalition picks Bush over Bauer.


Pat Robertson Marion Gordon "Pat" Robertson (born March 22 1930)[1] is a televangelist from the United States.[2] He is the founder of numerous organizations and corporations, including the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ), Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN), , the founder and president of the Christian Coalition Christian Coalition, organization founded to advance the agenda of political and social conservatives, mostly comprised of evangelical Protestant Republicans, and to preserve what it deems traditional American values. , and Gary Bauer Gary L. Bauer (born May 4 1946, Covington, Kentucky)[1] is a conservative American politician notable for his ties to several evangelical Christian groups and campaigns. In 1973, Bauer received a Juris Doctor degree from Georgetown University. , the Republican presidential aspirant, have much in common. As religious conservative leaders, they have both inveighed repeatedly against abortion rights and legal equality for gay men and lesbians.

But at the October 1 Christian Coalition conference in Washington, D.C., Robertson made it clear he is backing Texas governor George W. Bush, not Bauer, for the GOP presidential nomination.

Robertson's unofficial endorsement of Bush matched the theme of the convention. Speaker after speaker stressed that a new pragmatism is necessary in order for the embattled em·bat·tled

 and antigay views are well-known, Bush is far more politically moderate than Robertson. For his part Bauer shows no signs of moving to the center. Conference attendees cheered wildly when he declared, "My judges are going to understand that marriage is between a man and a woman, not two men."
