Inaugurated in 1881, it is the fourth oldest national cup competition in the world. Prior to the break-away from the Irish Football Association by clubs from what would become the Irish Free State after they beat a gallant Larne side 3-2 in an entertaining tie at Inver Park Inver Park is a multi-use stadium in Larne, County Antrim, Northern Ireland. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home ground of Larne F.C.. The stadium grounds can hold about 6,000. Seating for 850. It was founded in 1900. . Eddie Patterson's side had a scare when they surrendered a two-goal lead before grabbing a late winner courtesy of a mix up in the home defence. Despite the result new Larne manager Graeme McConnell took a lot of positives form the game. "We asked for a number of things from the players and we certainly got them despite the result and hopefully this performance can kick-start our season. "When you are down as we are you don't get the breaks. We didn't get what we deserved from the game but we got a bit of pride back with that performance," said McConnell. Cliftonville captain Liam Fleming thought his side were fortunate to avoid a replay. "We did ok in the first-half then took our foot of the pedal after the break and, to be honest, we got out of jail. "We had a couple of chances to kill the game off but we should have learnt from last year when we were in the same situation. We will be happy to get anyone now as we are just happy to be still in it," added Fleming. Both sides were intent on going forward in the early stages with Anto Lagan Lagan (lăg`ən), river, c.40 mi (60 km) long, rising in Slieve Croob, SE Northern Ireland. Cliftonville almost fell behind on 18 minutes. A corner from Noel Corrigan was met by Paul Hamilton whose header forced a fine save from John Connolly John Connolly is the name of:
The visitors opener came on 21 minutes. In a move straight from the training ground, Francis Murphy delivered a free kick onto the head of Davy McAlinden. His downward header fell to George McMullan. And his acrobatic overhead kick found the top corner despite the best efforts of Corrigan to keep it out. Just before the break the lead was doubled. Liam Fleming squared the ball to Francis Murphy. He had time to pick his spot before hammering a low shot into the net. Larne were back in contention when they pulled one back on 70 minutes. Aaron Black found space 15 yards out and curled home his 10th of the season. Larne were now dictating the pace and deservedly levelled with eight minutes remaining. Ross Black raced down the left, his precision pass into the path of Kyle Moran was hit first time and gave the keeper no chance. All the good work was undone however two minutes later. Aaron Black appeared to be shielding the ball back to keeper David Wilton but it ran between his legs allowing Chris Scannell to tuck it into the empty net for the winner.
