 Chris Prior says a career in football was par for the course after having to choose between the beautiful game and golf.

The 23-year-old is sure he has made the right choice and now hopes to help the Saracen Park side iron out any faults in their game and drive them all the way to the top.

Prior said: "I joined my local golf club as a 13-year-old and won the junior championship in my first year.

"In between playing golf I turned out for Celtic Boys Club Celtic Boys Club is a feeder club for Celtic Football Club founded in 1966. The club currently runs teams in age groups from Under-10 to Under-19. Many Celtic Boys Club players have gone on to have distinguished professional careers with Celtic, including Roy Aitken, Tom Boyd,  and eventually had to make a decision on which sport to take up seriously.

"If I'm honest, I was never going to make a career out of swinging a club so football won.

Prior, who has made the No.1 jersey his own this season, feels Ashfield are good enough to cause an upset in the Super League First Division.

He said: "Coming into a new division you are always wary about teams being better but our boss, Stevie Rankin, has instilled a winning mentality men·tal·i·ty

"We have started off well and currently sit top of the table.

"But the games are coming thick and fast and after beating sides like Cumnock and Kilsyth, we now face another huge test at Glencairn tomorrow."
