Chris is playing it by the book; Former wild man finds a new life in writing autobiography.Byline: Graham Young CHRIS Evans is coming to Birmingham next week to sign copies of his first autobiography, It's Not What You Think. He says 'first', because he's still only 43, has plenty more living yet to do... and now has the bug for writing. "It's the first time I've sat down to try to structure something and I liked it," he says. "Perhaps I might even be able to write a film now!" Never the type of guy to stop at just one thing, the former Warrington council house boy has always lived life in the fast lane. Losing his father at the age of 13 propelled him through a string of 20 jobs and into Manchester's Piccadilly Radio on his way to fame, fortune and a certain notoriety NOTORIETY, evidence. "I've already done all of the 'clocks' for the show and worked out what we'll do." His enduring success, he says, is not about understanding the 'trick' of reinvention, but an ethos about life itself. Although he's the first to admit he lost the plot when he became too successful, Chris has had the energy and determination to climb back up to the top. "Success is not about reinventing yourself every eight years," he says. "It's about doing it every day so that it's evolution. That's why you shouldn't look back or rest on your laurels. "In the middle of it all I stopped and started to enjoy myself and messed up big time." Because he's learned a new skill, Chris doesn't see writing his book was a case of looking back, more a way of taking himself forward to the future. Nor has constantly delving into his memories led him to dream about the past. "I think when you write things down, it stops you dreaming about them," he says.
