Chris Montan Promoted to the Newly Created Post of President of Walt Disney Music.


BURBANK, Calif.--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--Nov. 3, 1999--

Chris Montan, veteran music executive and producer for The Walt Disney Studios The name Walt Disney Studios may refer to:

 Music, it was announced today (11/3) by Joe Roth and Peter Schneider, chairman and president, respectively, of The Walt Disney Studios.

In his new role, he will be responsible for overseeing music for Disney-branded projects including animated features, theatrical stage productions, video premieres, musical event programming for "The Wonderful World of Disney," as well as other corporate and Theme Park related shows. Additionally, he will continue to serve as executive music producer for all of the Studio's animated features and work closely in selecting musical talent. He will also serve in an A&R capacity for Walt Disney Records Walt Disney Records is a record company and part of The Walt Disney Company.

The label was established in 1956 under the name Disneyland Records; its first release was A Child's Garden of Verses. The company changed to its current name in 1989.
 with regard to animated soundtracks. Montan will report directly to Schneider.

Commenting on the announcement, Roth said, "With Chris overseeing the music for all of our animated films as well as other Disney branded music projects and Kathy Nelson, president of music for The Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group, continuing to run the film music division, this Studio is in the very best of hands. Chris is without a doubt one of the most respected and successful music executives in the industry and we are thrilled that he will be taking on this new role overseeing this vitally important area of our Studio's creative efforts."

Schneider added: "Having worked closely with Chris on a variety of animated features over the past 14 years, I consider him an expert in his field. As an executive music producer, he has proven time and again that he has great instincts for picking the right talent and he has the track record to prove it. Under his leadership and creative guidance, the Studio has earned an impressive eleven musical Oscars in seven years. Chris is a joy to work with and we look forward to creating some great musical projects with him in the future."

Montan began his association with The Walt Disney Studios in 1984 and, three years later, was named vice president of music for motion pictures and television. In 1991, he began a four-year stint as senior vice president, music. In 1995, he entered into an exclusive five-year arrangement with Disney to produce motion pictures and provide consultation on a variety of music-related projects. In that role, he most recently served as producer of the acclaimed 1997 TV musical production of Rodgers & Hammerstein's "Cinderella" (starring Whitney Houston and Brandy brandy [for brandywine, from Du.,=burnt, i.e., distilled, wine], strong alcoholic spirit distilled from wine or from marc, the residue of the wine press. The most noted brandy is cognac, made from white grapes in the Charente district of France. ); and as executive producer of "Annie," a major new television musical for "The Wonderful World of Disney," airing on Sunday, November 7th on ABC ABC
 in full American Broadcasting Co.
