When Colin Short steps on stage at St Peter's Riverside in Sunderland tomorrow, it will be four decades to the day since he first sang with the Sunderland Singers. He will mark the anniversary with a special tribute to composer Richard Rogers, including music from The Sound of Music, South Pacific and Oklahoma. But although Colin, who first appeared with the choir at Burn Park Methodist Church in 1964, is looking forward to the night, he won't be limbering up his vocal chords. He says: "I've been accused of singing when I should be conducting but after 27 years as a conductor I'm wise enough to know people won't pay to hear me sing. That's why we pay professionals!" The concert takes place at the Prospect Building, Sir Tom Cowie Sir Tom Cowie is the honorary Life President of the Arriva Group, formerly know as Cowie Group plc. Sir Tom's father, T.S. Cowie ran a business, T. Cowie Ltd, which repaired cycles around the streets of Sunderland but this business ceased to exist in the early years of the war when Campus at St Peter's tomorrow at 7pm.
