The business of personal training is experiencing unprecedented growth. More and more people are looking to engage their own personal trainers as a way to safeguard their health and boost their fitness. Celebrities have also done their part to highlight the business as they and their personal trainers have been widely reported by the tabloid media.

The business of personal training is a good career choice because personal trainers have been shown to be among the most content of all professionals. They are fit, earn good salaries, meet lots of people and are in demand.

Those who wish to enter the business of personal training must think carefully and honestly about themselves and whether or not they truly possess the characteristics to be successful in the business. For example, personal trainers need to be extremely adaptable and not mind working odd hours. They have to work around the schedules of their clients which could mean early morning starts and late evening finishes.

If you are going into the business of personal training then you really need to be a person enjoys the company of others and has exceptionally good interpersonal skills. A ready sense of humour will also help. You must be good at encouraging people and you must be extremely self motivated yourself.

After you have decided that the business of personal training is what you really want to get into, your next decision must be the way in which you want to get involved. Is it your ambition to work for yourself or do you visualize yourself working for a really good employer? Both routes have their benefits and setbacks.

If you decide to go into the business of personal training on your own then, like with any other business, you must be very committed. You will be responsible for your own administration including providing legal waivers, submitting tax returns and all general record keeping. This will be time consuming and you will also have to do the personal training work in addition.

Working for someone else is a good way of entering the business of personal training. It will provide an opportunity to get introduced to the work and gain experience. You also have the added benefit of a reliable salary as well as access to health and pensions schemes. Your hours are likely to be much more manageable leaving you room for a social life. Although you will have to work stipulated hours and have little choice in your clients, working for someone else as a personal trainer is generally a good career move.

Anyone entering the business of personal training must think seriously about acquiring training and accreditation. Some countries do not require you to hold a specific qualification while others require some kind of formal certification. Wherever you are planning to work, you'll find it much easier to gain access to the field if you are accredited by a reputable institution. Many clients will be reluctant to hire a personal trainer unless they have proven credentials.
