Choir hits top note in BBC competition.


The Tees Valley Youth Choir Tees Valley Youth Choir is a choir made up of 13- to 19-year-olds from the boroughs of Stockton-on-Tees, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Darlington, and Redcar & Cleveland.

The choir was established in 1993 by John Forsyth (County Music Adviser for Cleveland at the time).
 is in fine voice after being crowned the Choir of the Day.

The group, above, was given the accolade during an audition round of the BBC Choir of the Year youth section at Peterborough's Cresset cres·set

A recording of their entry will now be heard by a panel of international judges and, if selected out of 11 entries, the choir will go on to the semi-final in February in Manchester.

Conductor John Forsyth is delighted for the choir, saying: "It is a real coup for them to do this well. It is recognising the fact that we have one of the best choirs in the country and it is great for our area to have a choir of such quality."

In July, the choir will perform at the National Festival of Music before travelling with the Tees Valley Youth Orchestra The Tees Valley Youth Orchestra is the flagship orchestra of the Tees Valley Music Service, and welcomes the best music students across the four boroughs of the Tees Valley (Middlesbrough, Redcar & Cleveland, Stockton-on-Tees and Billingham).  to Catalonia to perform in Montserrat and Barcelona Cathedral.
