CONFECTIONERY confectionery, delicacies or sweetmeats that have sugar as a principal ingredient, combined with coloring matter and flavoring and often with fruit or nuts. In the United States it is usually called candy, in Great Britain, sweets or boiled sweets.  giant Nestle said demand for chocolate among sweet-toothed Britons remained strong during the recession.

Swiss-based Nestle said its UK confectionery business continued to perform well in the first six months of the year with strong demand for brands such as KitKat, Yorkie and Smarties Smarties may refer to:

Nestle, which has sites including York and Castleford, said total confectionery sales rose by 4.3% to pounds 2.87bn.

KitKat alone continued its "excellent performance" with UK sales up 6.8%. Elsewhere in its UK operations, sales of Nescafe instant coffee were up 4.2%.
