A YOUNG medical student has taken a giant leap in her mission to become the first Scot in space.

She was chosen from thousands of students all over the world, and is the only non-American on the team.

Chloe's career plans went into orbit after a visit to Moscow's Star City space centre when she was just 15.

She has just returned from a month in Houston where she studied how astronauts cope for long periods in space.

She said: "It would be an honour to be the first Scot in space, but there is a long way to go - my role would be to look after the other astronauts."

Chloe is studying medicine at Manchester University but plans to return to Houston when she graduates.
