A FISH shop has beaten hundreds of contenders to win an award for the standard of its chips.

Gormans, of Westerhope, Newcastle, was named the North East's 'Perfect Portion' winner.

The win marks the beginning of National Chip Week, which starts today.

Keith Gorman, of Gormans, said: "Our customers come from near and far for their perfect portion and we are delighted to be recognised for the fantastic quality of our chips.

"We take great pride in our chips and go to great lengths to guarantee they receive the best portion around. Just come and see for yourself."
