Chipless RFID Can Operate to over 10 Meters Range and 256 Bits of Data and Have a Greater Physical Performance.

DUBLIN Dublin, city, Republic of Ireland
Dublin, Irish Baile Átha Cliath, county borough (1991 pop. 915,516), Leinster, capital of the Republic of Ireland, on Dublin Bay at the mouth of the Liffey River.
, Ireland Ireland, Irish Eire (âr`ə) [to it are related the poetic Erin and perhaps the Latin Hibernia], island, 32,598 sq mi (84,429 sq km), second largest of the British Isles.  -- Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/reports/c57950) has announced the addition of "Printed and Chipless RFID An interim stage between electronic article surveillance (EAS) and full-blown RFID. Chipless RFID tags use several one-bit EAS elements, each tuned to a different frequency, to create a serial number. See EAS and RFID.  Forecasts, Technologies & Players 2007-2017" to their offering.

Chipless RFID smart labels can be electronically interrogated to reveal ID and other data. They do not contain a microchip (1) Another term for a microminiaturized integrated circuit (a "chip").

(2) To insert an RFID tag beneath the skin of an animal. It is expected that some day, humans will be microchipped.
and therefore can cost much less than chip RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification) A data collection technology that uses electronic tags for storing data. The tag, also known as an "electronic label," "transponder" or "code plate," is made up of an RFID chip attached to an antenna. . From being just 0.4% of the RFID market in 2006 with cumulative sales of 100 million chipless tags to date (compared to 2322 million chip RFID), chipless devices have the potential to grow to 45% of the market in 2016. Ultimately, the end game of RFID will be that RFID is almost free, in the same ways that barcodes are today, and which are printed onto every item.

Some of the biggest names in the business now offer both chip and Chipless RFID in order to cover a full range of user needs. From AstraZeneca to Calvin Klein Noun 1. Calvin Klein - United States fashion designer noted for understated fashions (born in 1942)
Calvin Richard Klein, Klein
, companies are already using them in large volumes and many paper and packaging companies have licensed the various processes.

Chipless RFID can operate to over 10 meters range and 256 bits of data, can cost one tenth of their silicon chip equivalents and have a greater physical performance. Chipless RFID can be materials based, or it can consist of transistorless circuits. Transparent polymer transistor circuits are now also available from Philips, PolyIC, OrganicID and Motorola among others. These directly mimic the circuit on a chip. All this will means Chipless technology is addressing mainstream RFID applications and will rapidly grow the market by price reductions of one to two magnitudes.
