ChipData Launches RosettaNet-Compliant Data Servers for Major Component Suppliers.

Business Editors

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 10, 2000

ChipData's Paragon Family of Services Transforms Existing Data Into

RosettaNet PIP(TM)2A9-Compliant Design Information

Texas-based ChipData Inc., a RosettaNet Solutions Partner, today launched RosettaNet PIP (Partner Interface Process) 2A9-compliant data servers for major component suppliers and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), including IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries) , Infineon Technologies For the raceway, see .

Infineon Technologies AG (ISIN: DE0006231004, FWB: IFX, NYSE: IFX) was founded in April 1999 when the semiconductor operations of parent company, Siemens AG, were spun off to form a separate legal entity.

ChipData, through its ForceField(TM) Server and Paragon family of services, provides worldwide electronic component manufacturers the means to transform existing data into RosettaNet PIP2A9-compliant information and adds significant value by deriving CAD-Ready(TM) design and manufacturing information from chipmaker chip·mak·er

"Our customers tell us that RosettaNet is the wave of the future and that it makes it easier for them to do business with us," said Senior Director Ann Berry-Gallegos, U.S. Communications at Infineon Technologies in San Jose San Jose, city, United States

, Calif. "We successfully implemented ChipData's services for one of our large accounts and can now extend this customer-service process to other customers."

STMicroelectronics, likewise sensitive to customer needs, sought an easy means of reaching standards-compliance for its many product categories quickly. "ST has a very large catalog catalog, descriptive list, on cards or in a book, of the contents of a library. Assurbanipal's library at Nineveh was cataloged on shelves of slate. The first known subject catalog was compiled by Callimachus at the Alexandrian Library in the 3d cent. B.C.  of electronic components, and our product groups are spread over many sites in several countries," said e-Business Program Manager Jean-Claude Morand at STMicroelectronics. "We already have a significant presence on the Internet and are greatly expanding our customer self-service and e-Business offerings. We didn't need another catalog provider; we needed someone who understands components and the technologies used by our customers to build their designs. ChipData got us started quickly, without diverting di·vert

 critical internal resources."

Texas Instruments was intrigued by ChipData's approach, which conserves a chipmaker's internal resources and helps reduce time to market for both supplier and OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  alike.

"ChipData helped TI to provide a real-time technical information exchange service for our major customers. Time-to-market is critical, and QuickData compliance is key in working with our customers to meet that goal," said Bill Breden, Application Collateral Manager, Mass Marketing, Texas Instruments. "As a RosettaNet EC Board Partner, we are continuing our commitment to making it easy to do business with TI. Supporting open standards Specifications for hardware and software that are developed by a standards organization or a consortium involved in supporting a standard. Available to the public for developing compliant products, open standards imply "open systems;" that an existing component in a system can be replaced  is just one example of how we're achieving that goal."

ChipData's patent-pending technology allows companies to offer their updated information on a global scale and ensures compliance with RosettaNet and other standards through the following key solutions:
-- Data mining and content preparation. Using iDataMiner(TM), ChipData's
patent-pending technology introduced at the 2000 Design Automation Conference
(DAC), component data is automatically mined and prepared to meet standards for
RosettaNet PIP2A9 compliance without the need to re-key any data.

-- Content servers. ChipData offers stand-alone, Web-based ForceField content
servers, which can be hosted at ChipData or the customer's site, or both.

-- Compliance checker. ChipData's sophisticated compliance checker verifies
queries and responses against RosettaNet standards and reports compliance or
errors. The checker tests against RosettaNet dictionaries that provide
structure for many of the standards. ChipData's compliance checker is the core
of Si2's compliance test suite for the RosettaNet PIP2A9 standard.

-- Value-added design information. Along with browser-based software,
ChipData's value-added design information -- such as schematic symbols,
footprints, and design for manufacturing (DFM) data -- works quickly and
effectively to reduce OEM and Contract Manufacturer time to market.

"Our customers tell us we reduce their schematic capture schematic capture - The process of entering the logical design of an electronic circuit into a CAE system by creating a schematic representation of components and interconnections.  time 20 to 70 percent and allow one design librarian to do the work of three," said Jeff Barton, ChipData's Director of Product Marketing.

"ChipData's Paragon solution eliminates error, reduces costs, and improves productivity for major component suppliers worldwide," said Tom Selgas, ChipData's Vice President of Marketing. "We're an Internet-based collaborative infrastructure provider serving Component Suppliers, OEMs, Contract Manufacturers, and Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) with a mission to reduce design rework re·work
