The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  industry, announced the appointment of Alex Mendelsohn as senior technology editor to its growing staff of full-time editors. Mendelsohn, former chief editor of Pennwell Inc.'s Portable Design, will cover Test and Measurement for ChipCenter. He will also contribute to the site's overall editorial strategy.

Mendelsohn joins ChipCenter after serving a successful term at VerticalNet where he was the Managing Editor of Computer OEM Online. Prior to VerticalNet, Mendelsohn held senior editorial positions at publications such as Integrated Circuits and EE Product News. He has authored texts for military and commercial systems and has held faculty positions at Grumman Aerospace Data Systems Institute and Briarcliffe College.
