LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 2, 2000

Chip Express today announced the expansion of its Proteus FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) A type of gate array that is programmed in the field rather than in a semiconductor fab. Containing up to hundreds of thousands of gates, there are a variety of FPGA architectures on the market.  Replacement Program to include Altera's FLEX 10K Series PLD (Programmable Logic Device) Refers to a variety of logic chips that are programmable at the customer's site, the customer being the vendor of the finished chip, not the end user.  devices. The Proteus Program, launched in February 2000, now offers cost-effective replacement for both Xilinx 4000 Series FPGAs and Altera's FLEX 10K Series PLDs.

"The initial Proteus launch was well received in the industry and we are very excited to be expanding the program," said Stephen McMinn, Chip Express president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. . "By offering production replacements for the most popular FPGA/PLD suppliers, our Proteus Program now provides a single source cost-reduction solution to OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  suppliers using Altera FLEX 10K series PLDs and Xilinx 4000 series FPGAs."

Produced at Chip Express' Silicon Valley manufacturing facility, Proteus devices rely on single-wafer/one-mask fabrication technology. This approach allows the company to manufacture Proteus devices at a significant cost savings, and provides for FPGA replacement quantities that are quickly scalable to variable production demand.

Proteus FPGA Replacements are priced at 20%-50% less than competing FPGA/PLD devices. No NRE is required and custom marking of devices is available. Production parts are delivered in three weeks. Budgetary quotes are available online for specific Altera and Xilinx parts (https://www.chipexpress.com/proteusRFQ.html).
