 BB:ADBI ADBI Asian Development Bank Institute ) headquarters in Irvine last week (Tuesday, June 10, 1997) to exchange views on the challenges raised by the accelerating pace of technological change in the biopharmaceutical industry.

The group was accompanied by Jin Tong Chao, China's counselor general in Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. .

During the visit, Ming Tinghua, the deputy commissioner of the patent office in Beijing, who led the delegation, commented that "it is important that patents be internationally recognized and that the rules for establishing patents be harmonized har·mo·nize

"The future of our company lies in taking our technologies to Asia and the rest of the world," said Dr. Henry J. Smith, ADBI president and chief executive officer. "This meeting was an important step in developing strong ties to China."

The delegation spent a week visiting important businesses in southern California before returning to China June 13. Their trip was arranged by FCC (1) (Federal Communications Commission, Washington, DC, www.fcc.gov) The U.S. government agency that regulates interstate and international communications including wire, cable, radio, TV and satellite. The FCC was created under the U.S.  Group International Inc. of El Monte, Calif.

ADBI is currently in discussions with governmental representatives in Mexico, Panama, Poland, Indonesia, Thailand and Canada about sales of the company's medical products in those countries. -0-
