Chinese develop PCB recycling technology.

SHANGHAI, CHINA -- Chinese scientists say they have developed a recycling recycling, the process of recovering and reusing waste products—from household use, manufacturing, agriculture, and business—and thereby reducing their burden on the environment.  and recovery technology designed for the disposal of printed circuit boards, according to according to

A team at Shanghai Jiao Tong University Shanghai Jiao Tong University (Simplified Chinese: 上海交通大学; Traditional Chinese: 上海交通大學  believe that PCBs are an ideal target for recycling and reuse reuse - Using code developed for one application program in another application. Traditionally achieved using program libraries. Object-oriented programming offers reusability of code via its techniques of inheritance and genericity.  since they are self-contained modules of interconnected electronic components formed by a thin layer of conducting material deposited on the surface of an insulating board.

Such boards are a rich potential source of valuable metals and other materials that could be recovered and reused.

The researchers say the technology they developed involves special crushing crushing

of scrap boards, followed by separation of the metallic and non-metallic materials with an electric field. The scientists say the technique has advantages over other methods proposed for recycling PCBs.

The process is described in the February issue of the journal Environmental Science & Technology.
