Chinese chief engineer arrested in smuggling case.


SHIZUOKA, Japan, Sept. 10 Kyodo

A Chinese chief engineer from Hong Kong Hong Kong (hŏng kŏng), Mandarin Xianggang, special administrative region of China, formerly a British crown colony (2005 est. pop. 6,899,000), land area 422 sq mi (1,092 sq km), adjacent to Guangdong prov.  was arrested Thursday on suspicion of helping 10 Chinese illegally enter Japan last month on a ship, Maritime Safety Agency officials said.

Shum Kwan-wing, who was working on the 1,041-ton Chi Fai, a Honduran-flagged freighter, is suspected of aiding the 10 Chinese, who were arrested on suspicion of illegal entry between late August and earlier this month in the sea off Shizuoka Prefecture, central Japan.
