Chinese Government Gives WebTrends Stamp of Approval; China's Most Popular Web Destination Announces a National Standard for Web Measurement.

PORTLAND, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 7, 1998--WebTrends Corporation, the leader in enterprise management software for Internet/intranet servers and firewalls, announced that Sohoo, the first and most popular Chinese-language search engine, has picked WebTrends as the standard for accurately measuring visits to the Sohoo site.

News agency Reuters reported today that China's government bureau dealing with the internet, the Chinese Network Information Centre, has given its stamp of approval to the project, calling it China's first "true and objective measurement" of Web site traffic.

In a public statement, Charles Zhang, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of Internet Technologies China, which runs the Sohoo site, praised the way in which WebTrends counts and reports visits and denounced the current advertising measures used in China, which often inflate the number of visits by counting only hits. "We want the public to know that there is a better standard that already exists in the West. By boldly announcing that standard here, other companies cannot afford not letting the public know their true visitor numbers," said Zhang.

"As one of the fastest emerging powers on the Internet, China has had the unique opportunity to evaluate a range of existing technologies and select the best option," said Eli Shapira, CEO of WebTrends Corporation. "WebTrends offers market-leading tools for reliable, accurate reporting and management of Web sites."
