Chinatown fights gentrification.


With sky-high rents in San Francisco San Francisco (săn frănsĭs`kō), city (1990 pop. 723,959), coextensive with San Francisco co., W Calif., on the tip of a peninsula between the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay, which are connected by the strait known as the Golden , low-income communities and communities of color not of the white race; - commonly meaning, esp. in the United States, of negro blood, pure or mixed.

 have been pushed out of the city over the past decade. When the City College of San Francisco sought to buy property and displace residents of Chinatown, tenants organized and fought back. After an eight-year struggle, tenants declared victory this year and partnered with a local nonprofit organization Nonprofit Organization

An association that is given tax-free status. Donations to a non-profit organization are often tax deductible as well.
